Delicious homemade steak'n'chips

I’ve been doing quite a lot of veggie / vegan cooking with friends recently so when one suggested a steak night I was excited! I never cook steak at home as don’t know how to make it just right - but it’s always a restaurant favourite.

We started with the accompaniments to our steak dinner. Two different types of potatoes…

Both the sweet and regular potatoes were coated in oil, rosemary, salt, pepper and oregano before being baked in the oven.

We made a green salad (rocket, lettuce and edamame beans - painstakingly peeled by yours truly!)

Plus sugar snaps, peas and green beans.

The potatoes were turned halfway through cooking…they smelt delicious already.

Then we set the oven to ‘roast’ to crispen up the outsides…maybe just a little too much!

Next it was time for the main event - some seriously meaty entrecôte steaks.

Pan fried first with a little oil, garlic, rosemary and thyme.

Look how juicy they look!

Then they went into the oven to finish them off...

…whilst my friend made the sauce. Onions, herbs, cream, beef stock, sherry and some of the meat juices. The smell was amazing as the sauce cooked up and then reduced down.

The final accompaniment was a homemade garlic butter.

Finally it was time to plate up. Our tummies were rumbling with all the gorgeous smells filling the kitchen.

Look at this feast.

I mean really look…

…oh and don’t forget the salad!

Seriously delicious.

Whilst I don’t think I could ever give up meat (despite the recent damning WHO news and that I’m reading Dr Davies’ “Proteinaholic” at the moment), I think it’s good to save it for a time when you can really make the most of it and enjoy it. And of course buy good quality organic meat!
