Pennyhill Park - the spa of spas

Round two of the birthday celebrations for my sister was a visit to the heavenly Pennyhill Park. Pennyhill Park is a 5* Hotel, Spa and Golf Course in Surrey.

We started by having the ‘Traditional Ascot Afternoon Tea’ in the spa area…complete with people lounging around in dressing gowns and flip-flops.

We chose our hot drinks from the extensive menu…

…creme brûlée latte

…traditional hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream

…and a detox tea for me!

Then the food arrived…

…a range of freshly made sandwiches (egg mayo, cheese, smoked salmon & chicken)

…freshly baked (& still warm) scones with clotted cream and homemade jam (fruit and non-fruit scones)

…followed by a selection of homemade cakes and pastries.

Delicious!

And caught up on randomness...check out this video that had us giggling at the 'walk'!
Then we were given our flip flops (which you can keep afterwards if you fancy) and escorted down to the massive changing room - complete with a swing!

We slipped into our swimmers and robes and headed into the spa area. In their own words…

"Blend together 45,000 sq. ft. of pure relaxation with unrivalled five star facilities including eight indoor and outdoor pools (one with underwater music), a thermal heaven heat experience and treatments that are just as 'feel good' as they are effective and you have the most perfect spa experience you could wish for..."

And they’re not wrong. It really is heaven. It’s not the first time I’ve been but it’s such a treat still. You can lounge on heated ‘thrones’ reading an assortment of magazines in the tepidarium, before heading into the thermal heaven cabins: aromatic steam grotto; blu laconium room; herbal sauna; ice cave; schnapps steam room - plus plunge pool, hydrotherapy (outdoor) pool, jacuzzi, ballroom pool (with underwater music!) and the outdoor canadian hot tubs. And let’s not forget the ‘experience showers’ - five shower heads! It’s difficult to leave…

We also indulged further with treatments - 50 minute massages which were excellent. Though the bit we most remember was being escorted to the ‘sensory room’ afterwards where we lay in heated waterbeds, trying not to fall asleep!

It’s definitely the best place to ‘spa’ in England I’ve ever been to - and the England Rugby team train on the grounds so you might catch a glimpse of a well-muscled man as an added bonus!
