Back to England...briefly

I popped back to my homeland (England) for a weekend about a month after moving to Munich. It felt so lovely to be home!

To catch-up and make the most of the sunshine, Mama Bear and I headed out for a walk through the Surrey countryside. We headed off from Ripley, admiring sites such as the Newark Priory ruins…

…the River Wey…

…and some gorgeous tudor-style houses…

…all the time avoiding the generous spreading of mud from the the recent months of rain (at
one point this mud slide was our path!)

Then it was treat time! Mama Bear recommended Nest Home & Cafe - a gorgeous place in the middle of Ripley village.

It’s a homemade cafe and quirky trinket shop in one - perfect! In their words:

“Located in the heart of picturesque Ripley in Surrey, Nest Home & Cafe is a lifestyle destination with a difference. Our shop is piled high with carefully-sourced antiques, tableware, home accessories and gifts from around the world. Every product whether old or new, is chosen for its style, character and integrity….you can enjoy a stylish bite-to-eat in our cafe while you shop. Our food is seasonal and made fresh every day. Soak in the ambiance of our exquisite inside space, or watch the world go by on our sun-drenched terrace. Shop, sip, be inspired.”
The sign saying “life-changing cakes” was enough to convince me!

It’s a small and homely feeling place with lots around to catch your eye.

We ordered hot drinks and took seats at a table which was covered in a local map - such a cool decorative idea!

Then, to celebrate being back in England I ate the classic scone, jam and cream - two of them! Delicious!

Mama went for the healthier ‘posh panini’ which looked almost as good.

We then treated ourselves to a poke around the shop, spotting some fab things…

Turns out Harper’s Bazaar also recommends Nest..

Back home that afternoon it was time to do some ‘work’. Mama had been given 20 oranges by her market man and had no idea what to do with that amount of citrus fruit…

So I decided to make freshly squeezed orange juice (teehee, typo made that initially ‘organ juice’ which sounds repulsive!)…with a little help

10 oranges later (and after a surprising amount of effort on my part) - the fruits of my labour (pun intended!)

And not just juice…I also grated the peel for future use!

Mama Bear had also been busy…but rather than citrus products, she’d been dealing in chocolate:

Yes that’s right: brownie, millionaire shortbread, cupcakes and chocolate dipped strawberries! Man, I love being home.

Of course, sampling was needed - delicious!

Sunday brought further delights from the kitchen…it was our family’s fake Easter so with all female Bears reunited, we set up camp in the kitchen.

Roast beef, yorkies, roast pots and veggies:

Followed by apple pie:

In our family tradition my sisters and I also carried out our annual Easter egg hunt…I totally won!

We also chose our Easter egg - yum!

Before heading back to Munich on Monday, I also stocked up on Mama Bear goodies to keep me going for a day (or two!)
